Device Wi-Fi Connection

The BeeApiary hive scales support both a direct phone connection to their own access point and remote transmission through an existing apiary Wi-Fi network.

Direct Connection to the Device

After activation with the magnetic key, the device temporarily creates a local access point. It is usually available for about one minute, but this interval can be changed in the settings.

Default settings:

SSID: apiary_net
Password: apiary_wifi
Web interface: http://192.168.4.1

Through the local connection, you can:

  • allow the app to retrieve the measurement archive;
  • open the web interface;
  • configure the owner's phone number and the schedule;
  • view the charge level and firmware version;
  • use FTP to access files on the microSD card.

After the phone connects to apiary_net, the app finds the device and displays the prompt “Device nearby. Retrieve archive?”. Data is downloaded only after the user confirms the request.

Change the password

The default password is publicly known. After the first check, set your own password of up to 32 characters.

Routing Through the Apiary Wi-Fi Network

The device can connect to an existing Wi-Fi network at the apiary and automatically send data over the Internet to the owner's app. The phone can be anywhere with Internet access.

This method does not require a separate SIM card in every device, but a configured Wi-Fi network with Internet access must be available near the device.

How Setup Works

First, the user registers a device that is already known to the app. During registration, the phone must have Internet access, but it does not yet need to be connected to the device itself. The service creates identifiers and keys for communication between the app and the device.

The user then enters the name and password of the apiary Wi-Fi network in the app. The app stores these settings on the phone, but the device does not have them yet. To transfer them, temporarily connect the phone to the apiary_net access point, return to the app, and confirm that the prepared settings should be written to the device.

After a restart with the magnetic key or during the next scheduled hourly cycle, the device uses the configured network for automatic transmission. The phone no longer needs to be nearby.

Requirements

  • the device has already been added to the app;
  • the app has received its data at least once through SMS or a direct archive download;
  • the phone has Internet access during registration;
  • a Wi-Fi network with Internet access is available near the device;
  • the user knows the name and password of that network.

The online relay does not store data. Permanent storage remains local in the BeeApiary hive scales' memory and on the user's phone.
